If the world hates you, know that it has hated Me before it hated you. (John 15:18)
If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. (John 15:20)
Pastor John has been leading us through John 15:18-25 where Jesus Christ warns His disciples that they would be hated and persecuted because He was hated, persecuted and eventually killed. Jesus was righteous and sinless and did not deserve to die but did so as a substitution for sinners. Christ took the punishment we deserved so that whoever believes in Him will be forgiven of sins and have eternal life. Life with Christ far outweighs persecution, death, and eternal separation from God.
Apostle Peter preached Christ and was hated, persecuted and killed. Apostle Paul proclaimed Christ and was hated, persecuted and killed. Paul and Peter’s faith was not blind, wavering or uncertain. They knew full well that Jesus was God and Lord of their lives. They fully comprehended Jesus’ words in Matthew 16:25, “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.”
If we believe in Jesus, we will be hated, persecuted and possibly even killed. But it is Christ who saved those who believe in Him and has given them eternal life. Therefore, if you are follower of Jesus, will you affirm or deny Christ in the face of such adversity? Will you proclaim Christ to a lost and dying world?
Will you show Christ’s love to a world that will hate you?
